President's Corner

PRESIDENT´S CORNER

A Note from Amy Mehary, CP, LP, FAAOP

Dear Colleagues:

I am honored to serve as the President of the Texas Association of Orthotists and Prosthetists. Thank you for the opportunity to work with you and this Board to foster leadership for our profession while setting a clear direction for our association.  I look forward to working with all of our members, exhibitors, friends and future members as we improve the opportunities, education, and stature for Orthotists and Prosthetists across the state. I pay tribute to our founding members, past presidents and industry leaders. We are building upon their legacies.

In these economic times, our financial stability is paramount to our future, not only of this organization- but our practices themselves. I am grateful that we were able to partner with the Texas Chapter of the American Academy of Orthotists and Prosthetists, via the O&P Alliance effort, to achieve clarification of the FDA Medical devices Act in the State of Texas. The success of this effort is credited to many factors, but the power was in coming together in one collective, powerful voice. Mark Kirchner spearheaded this effort on our association’s behalf -without his leadership and the donations of the 32 clinicians and business owners who made contributions to the Alliance, the passage of SB 1271 would not be a reality-thanks to all who made that possible.  As the TCAAOP’s mission and goals are similar to our own, I hope that we will have the opportunity to collaborate on our mutual interests in the future.

You are the core of the TAOP. Members like you are vital to the success of our great association!  We want to hear your views because your remarks are integral to improving the Association...AND we want to see you at our annual meetings!  When you come, it is essential that each and every attendee visit with the exhibitors during scheduled breaks- Bring your business cards, place an order...Without their generous support and underwriting of these meetings...they wouldn’t happen. Let’s take our place as the BEST continuing education meeting in Southwest – be the organization that exhibitors put on their calendar first because of the great interactions with us.

Thank you for the opportunity to serve...Hope to see you in South Padre.
